My experience with Clinica Biblica was something extra special
From the moment I stepped from car at the door of Hospital I was met by
their International client reprehensive Nancy--she walked me through the
paperwork and tests, making sure there were no language problems[being from
the USA] and to the proper rooms to take the preopt medical, bloodworm, ekg
and ultimately right outside the preop room---it was incredible took an
hour and 10 minutes and I was ready for my hernia repair--I met my doctor,
Dr.Zafrani who was onetime and very pleasant he appeared competent--my
surgery was being done lapiscopticly, his specialty.
I woke up in the room and everything was ok, it was a success and who shows
up but Nancy checking to see if I was ok, in fact she came back again later,
now that's caring from the front door right to post op! the nurses and aids
were right there if you needed something within a minute of buzzing them.
Now what impressed me the most was the Hospital was so Modern and CLEAN
better than any facility I have been in the USA.the nurses washed their
hands coming into the room and when leaving the room, there was always
someone in sight cleaning , sweeping, polishing, disinfecting the walls,
doors, floors---Did I say Clean!
The hospital has all manner of areas of expertise from weight loss, general,
cardio, dentistry, vision and if they are done the same way as what I
received then I will be back and I have no problem recommending Clinica
Biblica to anyone !
The price of my procedure was I/3 that of the US hospitals and the things
you pay extra for in the US are included, the testing, bloodwork,
anestisolgist, any medications --ALL INCLUDED-remember you have to pay for
them separately in the US--they even take some major hospitalization but if
you have none it is affordable for anyone.
At check out time Nancy again walked me through everything and even pushed
the wheelchair to the door and I am a big guy! She waited with me till my
ride got there --the service was unbelievable
I stayed at a medical recovery center that Nancy arranged as I couldn't fly
home right away ,had to wait a while to make sure all went as planned and it
did--the recovery center was excellent also--very affordable, 24 hr nurse on
the premises ,3 meals, picked up at the airport and driven to and from all
doctor's appointments and back to the airport upon departure. Excellent
again I had nothing to worry about and at a very reasonable cost less than a
nightly stay at a hotel here in the US.
Clinica Biblica does it right and if I need surgery again it will be the
first place I look to for excellent care

SAN JOSÉ
COSTA RICA
RE: Angela Funge – Hospital File # 1737727
Sir:
Late evening, March 29, my wife was admitted to your Hospital, as recommended by Dr. René A. Revilla Piña. She was suffering from what appeared to be “food poisoning” and severe dehydration.
At the Emergency Ward, Angela was put on Intravenous also Antibiotics. She was later moved up to Room # 401. Her I.V. and antibiotics continued until her release the following day, March 30.
On behalf of my wife and I, please convey our deepest gratitude to the Emergency Room staff and the staff on Angela’s ward for their dedication to her care. Such efficiency and professionalism is a definite asset to your Hospital and to their profession.
A special thanks to Dr. René Revilla Piña. Under his expertise and cordial mannerisms, my wife, despite her discomfort, felt very much at ease knowing that she was in his care.
Enclosed are 3 Thank-You Cards containing copies of this correspondence. It would be greatly appreciated if you would ensure the Cards are directed, as indicated on the envelopes, to Dr. René Revilla Piña, to the Emergency Room and to the Nursing Station for Room # 401.
Otra vez, un millón de gracias.

To the following personnel:
Dr. Oscar Oeding at Clinica Biblica
Dr. Carlos Wu Chin at Clinica Biblic
Starlene Spencer International Dept. Clinica Biblica
Lorena & Ruben D Martin at Che Tica Ranch
Tim Wallace at Med Journeys
It is three weeks today that I had total hip replacement surgery at Hospital Clinica Biblica in Costa Rica and I am now back at my home in Cobble Hill, BC, Canada recuperating well and beginning to walk again and to resume my life.
My sincere thanks go out to all the staff in the International Department who made this medical journey an amazing experience. Starlene Spencer my Patients Coordinator, guide and guardian angel, who with her quiet, gentle and professional manner guided me from one station to the next in the hospital, eliminating completely my sense of anxiety. She does her work efficiently and was always in touch and right there whenever she was needed.
The entire hospital staff from Dr. Oscar Oeding, the friendly caring and skilled orthopedic surgeon, to Dr. Carlos Wu Chin who was called upon on short notice to help with my high blood pressure and who was on hand constantly during my stay, to the warm, kind and competent nurses on the ward, to the physiotherapists who provided gentle but necessary post operative therapy; all handled their duties in an extra ordinarily caring fashion. I cannot believe that medical care gets any better than what I experienced at Clinica Biblica. My heartfelt thanks go out to you all.
My thanks also to Tim Wallace at Med Journeys who suggested we consider hospital Clinica Biblica in Costa Rica. He said we would not be disappointed and he was so very right. He allayed our many concerns and followed up quickly on all our questions. He even arranged for Dr. Oeding who was on a holiday at the time to phone prior to our leaving.
Che Tica became our home away from home for almost two weeks while I recovered sufficiently to make the long journey back to Canada. Once again the entire staff at this facility outdid themselves in ensuring we were comfortable and well looked after. The location itself is most conducive to recuperation and the staff from Francis the onsite nurse to the massage therapists to the house keeping, cooks and catering staff, the drivers and Lorena & Ruben Martin proprietors all encouraged my small steps of recuperation. They are all a beautiful, loving people and excellent representatives of the country of Costa Rica.
It goes without saying that we would highly recommend Med Journeys, Clinica Biblica and Che Tica to anyone in need of medical attention outside of Canada or the United States. In fact should you wish, you may have any potential candidate contact us at the above address. We would be only too happy to provide a verbal Testimonial.
Once again we thank you for your many kindnesses and wish you all the very best in the future.
Very sincerely yours,
Mary MacGregor

Dear Brad Cook, Dr. Speranza Sanchez, Dr. Solis Rodriguez,
I wanted to take this opportunity to express my gratitude toward the kindness, generosity and care that was given to me last week at Hospital Clinica Biblica. I had superb medical care with Dr. Speranza Sanchez and Dr. Solis Rodriguez. I appreciated the expert advice that they gave and the treatment that was offered which helped me very much. I was able to travel back safely to North America to see my lovely wife who was of course very concerned about the medical condition I found myself in.
My friends whom I was working with in Costa Rica definitely took me to the right hospital. I understand that Montserrat Antillion communicated something of my work and situation and therefore, the care I received was given at a significantly reduced cost. I cannot thank you enough for making this possible. It is a real encouragement to keep going in the work that I do, knowing there are others who are so supportive along the way.
May God bless you all very much. |

Estimado Señor Garcia!
I hope the claim for payment of your account is now proceeding properly!
As I have said before, the medical team, staff and all the people at your hospital, Hospital Clinica Biblica, impressed me as world class. I am sure that without the professional, loving care granted to me by you, I would not be able to write this email - unless the world beyond has recently established electronic communications with this one (a bad joke, I know!) You people saved my life.
Please do pass on this email to all the people there. The wonderful members of the medical team, whose professionalism is so well complemented by the nursing an assistant staff and everyone down to the people who fed me and cleaned up my messes, kept me going through some rather bad times.
Thanks to all.
God bless you all!

48 Days Post-Op
Melissa
Wow where to begin. I have seen so many changes recently. Not just with me, but with others as well. The most recent being my doctor. I saw her yesterday for a prescription I wanted. She began asking me how I was feeling in regards to my MS, she wanted details, then asked the price I paid to have the procedure. As I was leaving she said "You are the only MS patient I have that has had this done. I'm just very curious to know how things are going." She was all smiles. I think she is in support of this new treatment, however like she said, she has to remain non-supportive. I'm glad that I am able to give her real life evidence that this procedure is beneficial, instead of all the garbage that is being passed down to physicians. As requested, I will keep her up-to-date on my progress.
Now this brings me to my "lack of symptoms". I call it that since every week something has dissipated. Last weekend I was able to work a full 8 hour shift on my feet until 1am and not be tired when I got home! That alone gave me such an adrenaline rush that when I got home and was talking to Bryden, he asked how much coffee I had had. haha During that evening I was also doing bar without a register. Which means everything had to be done by hand. I was very nervous about that since my cognitive skills have not improved much, but I surprised myself yet again! I was able to add up the cost of the drinks in my head a well as the appropriate change. My energy level is very high, which can sometime be a very bad thing. I made the mistake of going too hard one day, cleaning everything and making dinner, that the next day I was exhausted. I have to get into the habit of taking breaks. Once I get on a role, I don't stop. I think I learned my lesson.
The last bit of great news I have is my balance ability. This past Monday, for my Birthday, I wore heels for the first time in a year and a half. I have been too scared to wear them since my procedure because I think I was traumatized. The embarrassment was too much before. However, I did wear heels and did not struggle with balance problems! The only difficulty was getting used to being up that high again, and walking slower of course. I felt like a little girl wearing her moms heels for the first time! It took me a good hour to get used to them. That night was a great celebration of my new life.
I am so thankful for facebook as it allows me to keep in contact with my "MS Family" and hear how they are doing. We all seem to be so happy. Even if it's a bad day, it is MUCH better than the best day pre-Liberation. Just have to keep your head up, stay active and healthy. Pura Vida!!

Dear family and friends!
Diane and I have been home for one week now and so many of you have asked John to let them know about the results of her CCSVI procedure in Costa Rica, I thought it would be better to send the update by email, and I promise not to make it too long! I also know that many of you were asking because you have friends or family with MS and have heard about the Liberation Treatment, so we're included some websites that will direct you to the company that we went with, and we can't praise their services enough. It's sad and very frustrating that we can't get this very simple angioplasty treatment here in Canada, but since we can't we're thankful we could get it for Diane at a very reputable and caring hospital in Costa Rica.
Results? Wonderful. Within an hour after coming out of the anesthesia Diane was speaking properly again (her speech had gone downhill over the last year), and within a few days her walking was vastly improved! MS'ers from almost every province in Canada were there, many in wheelchairs, and we think everyone found it amazing how their bodies responded when their blood was finally flowing properly! Diane had been pre-tested in Vancouver for the iron blockages that cause the symptoms, and her procedure in Costa Rica confirmed the results. One in the Azygous vein behind the breast bone, one in the left vertebral vein, and the other in her right jugular vein.
We stayed in a beautiful hotel on the outskirts of San Jose - next to a coffee finca, but were transported into the hospital for the pre-op exams, the procedure, and the post op with the surgeon. The patients had incredible Rehab at the hotel given by two highly qualified physio's, both in the hotel gym and in the pool - which was kept at a temperature perfect for the needs of the people with MS. The goal of the physio workout was to make the brain and body work together again, something that had become impossible for many of the patients. At the post-op appointment Diane's surgeon told us that when he went to his first conference with Dr. Zamboni (Italy), Dr. Simpkin (Poland) and Dr. Haake (McMaster Univ), he was skeptical, but he is no longer skeptical. Going to his hospital office for the post-op was quite a learning curve for us. He put his laptop on his desk and slipped in a disc that walked us through her procedure, pointing out where the blockages were and what balloons were used. He then did another Doppler on her and found her blood flowing beautifully, and he also told her that she should see other changes over the next 2 or 3 months. This treatment isn't considered a 'cure' for MS, but it does relieve symptoms, and right now who would want more than that! (tonight Diane actually showed off a little, jogging through the house and slipping in a few dance steps - very exciting stuff for us I must say).
The patients were treated at Hospital Clinica Biblica in San Jose, and we discovered quickly that, with all due respect to some Canadian hospitals, we may be the ones with third world hospitals. It's supposedly a private hospital, but many ordinary Costa Rican's were being treated there. We were told by the neurologist who did Diane's assessment when we arrived that Costa Rica is a socialist country, hasn't had a military since 1948, and hence has money for education and health. (would someone please tell that to Mr. Harper!!). The place was antiseptically clean... sterilization stations between every 2 hospital rooms, and I watched as everyone, cleaners, nurses, doctors used them before visiting the next room. The medical staff was very warm and caring and we put it down to the fact that they are Latin's who are noted for their friendliness. Their warm hugs and head rubs which were so appreciated by people who were in a different country for the first time and without too many familiars around.
Diane continues to improve, she's on blood thinners for a month, and is back to her daily walking routines, and will start at the pool and gym in September to work on the pool exercises she learned in Costa Rica.
Canadian researchers are busy reinventing the wheel right now and promise to have the procedure ready in the next 2/3 years....but that could be too late for many Canadians with MS. And we want everyone to know that yes, it is relatively expensive, but that probably well over 50% of the patients from Canada were there because friends and family helped them financially or their communities put on fundraisers for them. If you know someone who wants to have the Liberation treatment, be sure to reassure them that it's quite alright to ask for financial help... in fact some of the community fundraiser parties we heard about sounded like great fun! One couple told us that their friends and family always had a very difficult time talking about their MS, but helping to raise money was something they could do - and did!
Please email us if you have more questions, and feel free to send this to anyone with MS who is thinking about having the CCSVI Liberation treatment and tell them they can contact us with their questions.
love to you all, Rosemary, John and Diane
