Gastroenterology is the study of the function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and normal liver.
Diseases that affect the gastrointestinal tract, including organs that go from mouth to anus, through the alimentary canal, are the focus of this specialty.
Gastroenterologists treat patients after they are 18 years old and older and, need to have a detailed comprehension of the normal physiology of all the organs mentioned above, as well as the mobility through the intestines and gastrointestinal tract with the aim of maintaining a healthy digestion, nutrient absorption, residue elimination and metabolic processes.
The gastroenterologists from the Clínica Bíblica Hospital offer a diagnosis using modern equipment like: video-gastroscopy, video-colonoscopy, Video-rectosigmoidoscopy, Video-enteroscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, manometry and esophageal pHmetry, detection of the H in the pylorus by breath test, endoscopic capsule to observe the small intestine. We also have pediatric endoscopies. In the practice, all endoscopic therapeutic procedures are performed with minimally invasive surgery from the endoscopic point of view: polypectomy, mucosectomy, stent placement, CPR, dilating of the digestive tract, bleeding management, endoscopic ultrasound with biopsies of the pancreas, among others.
