Cardiology
Cardiology is the medical specialty that uses invasive and non-invasive procedures for the treatment of different heart illnesses. It is composed of the cardiac muscle, valves, arteries and electrical system. A patient can have an illness that involves one or all components, and this is where the respective subspecialties come in. For example: the cardiac electrophysiologist treats illnesses related to the electrical system, the interventionist treats illnesses of the arteries and the cardiac physiologist treats valve and cardiac muscle illnesses. Patients with these illnesses, if they are in an advanced state, at any given moment, might need open-heart surgery. Open heart surgeries are performed by a cardiovascular surgeon.
