A specialist in pharmaceuticals is an expert in medicines. He works directly with other physicians, health professionals and patients to ensure that prescribed medicines offer the best therapeutical results and to give the best coordination to patient attention. The pharmacist has a position in which he can perform a wide range of analysis allowing him to be part of the health team treating the patient.

The functions that a clinical pharmacist has are: evaluation of the state of health problems of the patient and determine if the prescribed medicines are meeting the patient’s needs and therapy objectives in an optimal way; recognition of untreated health problems that can get better or resolved with an appropriate medicine therapy; following the patient’s evolution to determine the effects of the drugs over the patient’s health; informing the patient about the best way to take his drugs; supporting the efforts performed by the health team to educate the patient about important steps to maintain or improve health, such as exercise, diet, and preventive measures such as vaccination.
