All the tests help to detect pathologies which in the majority of cases are easily treatable and help to maintain adequate academic performance. Early diagnosis is vital to the health of one and all, and at the level of the school-aged students can be extremely helpful.

Dr. Jorge Martínez Vásquez, pediatrician at the Clinica Biblica Hospital, stated that “Many children do not learn adequately as they cannot hear or see well or they may suffer from anemia. An annual vision check-up is very important, along with a dental check-up, and an audition check-up should be carried out at least every two years.”

Some of the medical tests that should be performed on students include:

• Complete Blood-Count: it is important to be sure that the hemoglobin is normal as there is clear data showing that children with anemia demonstrate lower academic performance. A general urine examination is also helpful and stool examination can also be performed to rule out the existence of parasites.
• If the patient presents some other specific symptom, it is helpful to perform other examinations according to the symptoms.
• It is very important to have an annual eye-test performed along with a dental check-up each year, with an audition check-up performed every two years.

One of the problems which may be identified is anemia which can be treated with iron supplements, deworming is performed in case of parasites, and any visual problems can be corrected with glasses or even the detection of a lesion which may lead to permanent loss of visual capacity.
