More than 50% of women in menstrual stage suffer from mammary cystic fibrosis

The main causes of the appearance of mammary cystic fibrosis are based on a hormone overproduction of the ovaries, which causes the breasts to feel inflamed, hurting or with irregular formations.
According to Dr. Leonel Abud Sánchez, gynecologist of the Clínica Bíblica Hospital, “the most uncomfortable stage is when one suffers from “fibro-cystic changes” on the days prior to the menstrual cycle, but it has been shown that, once this period progresses, the discomfort is usually reduced.”
In the same context mentioned by the doctor, positive results have been found in women who take birth-control pills, who also benefit from the reduction of breast pain and inflammation.
This type of changes is so common that it affects more than 50% of the women in menstrual stage and those who submit to hormone therapies, increasing its appearance in the decade that covers those between 30 to 40 years-old.
As Dr. Abud said, the patient, generally, may feel pain (mastalgia), which can become uncomfortable when sleeping and with certain movements, for example when doing exercise. The pain is not usually disabling, however, when it is constant and does not improve with analgesics, it is best to perform supplementary breast ultrasound studies to discard a background pathology.
In addition to the pain, the protuberances and the feeling of thickening of the skin, one may experience nipple secretions. These symptoms are normal unless the secretion is bloody, if so, the patient should go to the doctor immediately.
It is important to underline that this condition is temporary so that many physicians do not even catalogue it as a disease. You may remain calm if the results of your tests are normal since the fibro-cystic changes also do not represent a direct risk of suffering breast cancer and the symptoms usually disappear after menopause.
