Headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, insecurity when walking or weakness in any of the limbs, are the most frequent symptoms of cerebrovascular diseases.
According to Dr. Fanny Rojas Robles, cardiologist of the Clinica Biblica Hospital, “the most common cerebrovascular diseases are strokes such as hemorrhages, ischemia or bad circulation caused by a clot that obstructs the blood passage into the brain. These can be permanent or transitory. A cat-scan should always be performed to make sure of the result.”
Exercising, maintaining an ideal weight, controlling well diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure, knowing how to manage stress, keeping sugar levels normal, as well as cholesterol and triglycerides, in addition to not smoking, will help you avoid cerebrovascular diseases.
This type of problems are detected by the following symptoms: dizziness, loss of memory, numbness of hands or legs, alterations when walking or speaking, among others.
According to the hospital cardiologist, those most exposed to having this illness are senior adults, those with high blood pressure who do not control their high pressures, diabetics, smokers and people with high cholesterol and triglycerides.
An accident is not the same as an illness
A cerebrovascular accident is the consequence of the arterial damage. It generally occurs in an artery that is affected or inflamed. It is what we call a stroke, thrombosis or hemorrhage, which is something acute. These conditions are not the same.
The affection covers suffering cerebral vasculature, which causes the cerebral flow to diminish, with transitory or permanent affectation. It is a process that has developed over time, a chronic damage.
“The treatment will always depend on the type of condition, studying first the background disease which can be: diabetes, high blood pressure or smoking”, said the cardiologist.
You can have a normal life if you have a slight disorder, if you have had a transitory or light cerebral vascular accident. If on the contrary, it has been important and has left aftermaths such as alterations when walking or speaking, there will be certain difficulties in order to develop a normal life.
