For the second consecutive year, the Blood Bank of the Clinica Biblica Hospital received the “Elite” quality certificate on the Latin American level.  This distinction is awarded by the Asociación Brasileira de Hematología y Hemoterapia (Brazilian Association of Hematology and Hemo-therapy) under the Program of External Quality Control in Immunohematology.

According to Dr. Rodrigo Cruz Jiménez, Head of the Laboratory of the Clínica Bíblica Hospital, “it is with great pride that we receive for the second time this Quality Certificate “Elite”. This distinction allows us to continuing showing the quality and excellence in the service, as well as guaranteeing our patients the application of rigorous security measures used during the entire transfusion process and its treatment.”

This year´s practical evaluations took place during the months of February, May and July of 2015. The recognition was awarded to the medical center because it had ten consecutive practical evaluations 100% successful in the quality programs developed during the immunohematological processes of those of analysis or control of blood transfusions.

“The correct typification of the blood samples and the detection of irregular antibodies in all the blood donations that we carry out, constitute one of the most relevant aspects, since this is what allows us to guarantee that the transfusions comply with the objectives proposed without causing adverse effects, some of which could place the patients´ life at risk,” concluded Cruz.

Some of the aspects that were evaluated were: ABO / RhD (analysis of the blood groups; tracking and identification of irregular antibodies in the blood, Rh phenotype  (C, c, E, e) and K; as well as direct testing of the human anti-globulin and aspects related with the security of transfusion medicine.
